Australian Government family assistance payments

Will my child’s immunisation status affect my family assistance payments?

Yes - your child has to be up to date with immunisation, or have an exemption, for you to be eligible to receive the Child Care Benefit and Maternity Immunisation Allowance.

How can I check?

To show that your child is up to date with immunisation, your child’s immunisation status on the Immunisation Register can be checked by the Family Assistance Office, or you can ask the Register to send you an immunisation history statement for your child.

What if my child is not up to date?

If the Immunisation Register shows that your child is not up to date, you may be asked to submit an Immunisation History form, completed by your doctor or immunisation provider, confirming your child’s immunisation status. This form should then be sent to the Immunisation Register so that any missing vaccination details can be recorded.

You can arrange a catch-up program with your doctor or immunisation provider if further vaccinations for your child are needed.

Exemptions

You can get an exemption from immunisation if:

  • your child cannot be immunised because of a medical condition. Ask your doctor or immunisation provider to complete a Medical contraindication form [PDF, 150Kb]PDF reader required
  • you have a personal, philosophical, religious or medical belief that your child should not be immunised. Ask your doctor or immunisation provider to complete a Conscientious objection form [PDF, 177Kb]PDF reader required
  • your child has a natural immunity to a disease, or a vaccine is unavailable. Ask your doctor or immunisation provider for a letter explaining the reasons.
